  • The Lost Dogs "Mutt" CD
Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

For this record, the band decided to take songs - 3 songs each - from each of their regular bands and redo them Lost Dogs style.

Roe brought The 77s songs "It's So Sad" (from 1983's Ping Pong Over the Abyss) and "The Lust, The Flesh, The Eyes and the Pride of Life" (from 1984's The 77s) and his own solo track "Sunshine Down" (from 2001's Say Your Prayers).

Daugherty brought along the Choir songs, "Like A Cloud" (from 1994's Speckled Bird) and "To Cover You" (from 1987's Wide Eyed Wonder), plus the modern hymn "Beautiful Scandalous Night."

Taylor brought the Daniel Amos songs "If You Want To" (from 1991's Kalhoun), "Grace Is The Smell of Rain" (from 1993's MotorCycle) and, the first song D.A. ever recorded, "'Aint Gonna Fight It."

The trio then added one new track to the end of the record, "I'm Setting You Free (But I'm Not Letting You Go)."

Instead of simply recreating the original performances, each song was given a facelift with different singers taking over the lead vocals. For example, Roe & Daugherty would tackle the D.A songs, and Taylor and Daugherty would sing the 77s tracks. The song that perhaps received the most noticeable rearrangement was the 77's "It's So Sad," which was turned into a rockabilly tune.

Includes unlimited streaming of Mutt via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.

(Terry Taylor) I'll pick you up I'll set you down We'll fall in love If you want to I'll stay right here Or I'll go away We'll live forever If you want to I looked through a window and I saw into heaven Sweet mother and child in a stain-glass reflection Out over the gate we saw angels in the garden We're gazing from a distance at our own resurrection I'll block the door Or I'll step aside We'll change the world If you want to I looked through a window and I saw into heaven Sweet mother and child in a stain-glass reflection Out over the gate we saw angels in the garden We're gazing from a distance at our own resurrection I'll block the door Or I'll step aside We'll change the world If you want to I'll turn the key I'll start the car We'll drive into the sunset If you want to If you want to If you want to If you want to...

(Michael Roe) Well, I feel Like I have to feel Something good all of the time With most of life I cannot deal But a good feeling I can feel Even though it may not be real And if a person, place or thing can deliver I will quiver with delight But will it last me for all my life Or just one more lonely, lonely night The lust, the flesh The eyes And the pride of life Drain the life Right out of me Well, I see something and I want it Bam! Right now! No questions asked Don't worry how much it costs me now or later I want it and I want it fast I'll go to any length Sacrifice all that I already have And all that I might get Just to get Something more that I don't need And Lord, please don't ask me what for The lust, the flesh The eyes And the pride of life Drain the life Right out of me And I love it when folks Look right at me And what I'm doing Or I have done And lay it on about How groovy I am And that I am looking grand And every single word Makes me think I'll live forever Never knowing that they probably Won't remember what they said tomorrow Tomorrow I could be dead The lust, the flesh The eyes And the pride of life Drain the life Right out of me

Like A Cloud 02:56
(Steve Hindalong/Derri Daugherty) I want to float you like a cloud I want to drink you like a flower drinks rain I want to lift you up to heaven Now I can't get you off the ground when you wear such heavy shoes But I'll keep trying because I really want to float you Like a cloud I want to drink you like a flower drinks rain I want to lift you up to heavenly places and beg you to remain I never mean to make you cry I don't want to bring you down When I'm descending hold on tight I always turn around I want to float you Like a cloud I want to swallow you like a flower drinks rain I want to lift you up to heavenly places and beg you to remain I want to float you Like a cloud I want to lift you up to heaven I want to float you Like a cloud I want to lift you up to heaven I want to float you Like a cloud I want to lift you up to heaven

(Words by Terry Taylor / Music by Terry Taylor and Jerry Chamberlain) The cauliflower ears The crocodile tears The hearts too hard for breaking We hobble down to your undertow The lunatic fringe by the Quackery Miracle Sludge from the factory Come to trouble the water Angels and otters, Psychosomatics cleaning their attics-they learn Grace is the smell of rain Pride that stiffs the neck healed by graceless genuflect Heaven and earth embracing Like lovers under the mistletoe These low of lows, dregs of the earth, malcontents when the last are first come to trouble the water Mothers and fathers Immersing their babies, they pluck them from hades where Grace is the smell of rain There's old sleep in our eyes and deep thorns in our sides but old dogs learn new tricks when the rain is falling By the bottomless lagoon a drunkard's dancing in the moonlight The cauliflower ears (the dregs of earth making their way) The crocodile tears (a drunkard's dance under the moonlight) The hearts too hard for breaking We hobble down to your undertow The lunatic fringe by the Quackery Miracle Sludge from the factory Come to trouble the water Angels and otters, Psychosomatics cleaning their attics-they learn Grace is the smell of rain Grace is the smell of rain Grace is the smell of rain

(Michael Roe) I marvel as I sip upon my sweet tea I’m pop-eyed at the sweetness of my sweet peas The blooming of my trees Why does the sun shine down on me? I’m grateful for the greatness of your soft hands And thankful for the cleanness of my pressed pants You part the clouds still I don’t see Why does the sun shine down on me? Sometimes I hear, sometimes I listen Most of the time I’m stubborn and indifferent Often I’m sad, knowing what I’m missing And all the time I’m wishing things were all so different Thinking of asking that the end don’t come too soon ‘cuz I’ve got a friend or two Could use a friend like You ‘cuz It’s getting cold and now I see Just why the sun shines down on me Upon my friends, down on my daughter A beam of light to walk upon Your water Shine on and bless my mother and my father Praying for me when I could not be bothered If my house goes up in flames give it a dowse, please But never let the flame You lit inside my heart cease I cannot live without the heat From Your sun shining down on me

To Cover You 02:44
(Steve Hindalong/Derri Daugherty) Walk down a dark street naked on a winter night Run from the law like the sunday I saw the light To defend your spirit I would go to war I would chase the devil to Jehovah's door I would do anything To cover you body and soul, girl I would give everything in the world To cover you (cover you) To cover you Set my guitar on fire with a long stemmed match Dance while it burns and laugh when it turns to ash I would torch everything to keep you warm I would do anything to keep you from harm, honey I would do anything To cover you body and soul, girl I would give everything in the world To cover you I would do anything To wrap you up tight on a cold night I would give everything that I have To cover you (cover you) To cover you I would do anything To cover you body and soul, girl I would give everything in the world To cover you (cover you) To cover you (cover you) To cover you

It's So Sad 02:44
(Mark Proctor) Morning after morning Day after day Life goes on In the same old way No variation Or so it seems Sometimes we realize Our nightmares Not our dreams Oh, It's sad Woah-oh, It's so sad When someone says they Found The Answer You tell him you're Not really doing That bad They're trying to buy heaven Right here on earth The cost will always end up More than it's worth You ponder living You wonder why No matter what you do You're still going to die Chorus Guilt is in your conscience Pain in your soul Feel's like you're falling Down a deep dark hole You drink that whiskey You smoke that pot Twenty more years What in hell have you got Chorus When Jesus says that He's the answer You tell him you're Not really doing That bad
8.
(1976 Terry Taylor) No, I ain't gonna fight it, His Spirit is taking me there I cannot doubt, that love is in the air Surrender my will to the One who's calling my name They tell me once your heart's there You'll never be the same I hear music and laughter just outside of my door This time it's just a little louder than before I hear Jesus making promises that I must now claim They tell me once your heart's there You'll never be the same Oh, peace has got it's grip on me, it's drawing me on I know that in a moment I'll be gone I'm feeling warm within, it's like being born again Take me Lord Take me Lord With my mind on hope, my heart, my soul on faith I take the step that time cannot erase Stepping into the sunshine out of the falling rain They tell me once your heart's there You'll never be the same Oh, peace has got it's grip on me, it's drawing me on I know that in a moment I'll be gone I'm feeling warm within, it's like being born again Take me Lord Take me Lord Surrender my soul to the One who's calling my name They tell me once your heart's there You'll never be the same I've found that once your heart's there You'll never be the same

(Steve Hindalong/Derri Daugherty) Go on up to the mountain of mercy To the crimson perpetual tide Kneel down on the shore Be thirsty no more Go under and be purified Follow Christ to the holy mountain Sinner sorry and wrecked by the fall Cleanse your heart and your soul In the fountain that flowed For you and for me and for all (Chorus) At the wonderful, tragic, mysterious tree On that beautiful scandalous night you and me Were atoned by His blood and forever washed white On that beautiful, scandalous night On the hillside, you were delivered At the foot of the cross justified And Your spirit restored By the river that poured From our blessed Savior's side (Chorus) Go on up to the mountain of mercy To the crimson perpetual tide Kneel down on the shore Be thirsty no more Go under and be purified (Chorus)
10.
(Terry Taylor / Steve Hindalong) chorus: I'm setting you free but I'm not letting you I'm watching you fly away but keeping you close I can't help but cry a little Heaven knows I'm setting you free but I'm not letting you Though Mom says I spoil you Please come home real often often and soon Would you think of us as foolish if we do some pretending by leaving your light on here in your room? (chorus) Drive slow on the freeways call first thing when you get there You know me, how I worry I'll be up most the night and if you need anything, baby you know we'll both be here In the meantime we're praying that your future is bright (chorus) Wheres that princess in a party dress? now shes a young lady with dreams fly away butterfly on the wind, taking wings The first time that I held you child you forever changed my soul and I'm holding you now because I want you to know (chorus)
