It's a sinners dream when the whistle screams Calling "All aboard you fools and hard-hearted" Ever circling back on a one way track They pull into the station where they started Some arriving when they think they've just departed But they're not going anywhere Lost souls when they've landed there choose to stay like prisoners unguarded All hope is abandoned here 'cause they know the engineer Ghost Train to Nowhere They pass a thousand concrete pillars and never see a single tree Grey sky eyes begging for a little sleep Down the same dark tunnels past the same empty streets The cigarette smoke chokes, the coffee's weak And they cry "oh..." It's a funeral pyre belching smoke and fire All luxuries, amenities discarded It circles back on a one way track Pulling into the station where where it started Ghost Train to Nowhere... They search eternal winter landscapes For images of loved ones and home Though every seat and aisle is crowded They have never felt so all alone While suffering is assured and silence is preferred Most everybody weeps though they don't speak a word They just cry "oh..." They sigh..."o-o-h-h..." It's a sinners dream when the whistle screams Calling "All aboard you fools and hard-hearted" Ever circling back on a one way track They pull into the station where they started Some arriving when they think they've just departed But they're not going anywhere Lost souls when they've landed there choose to stay like prisoners unguarded All hope is abandoned here 'cause they know the engineer Ghost Train to Nowhere...

I heard the law came down in Vegas town They no longer fear the mob Told my wife and kids, "It's a business trip, Daddy's only doin' his job" So I emptied out the savings account Sure that I could beat the odds And though you might not rate a desert grave That town still steals and robs For free drinks and a dream I gave them my wallet I rolled the dice and upped my price A soul for sale, they bought it Now a billion lights gleam They're twinkling 'bove this dead broke alcoholic And I lost everything To free drinks and a dream The day I sold my car I hit the bar across from my cheap motel room That's when I thought hard about just gettin' out Of this bright and lavish tomb But this place don't sleep on its promise to keep A light on against the gloom She says maybe you got one more shot And that's the lie that's been my ruin A dream of livin' your years out With just a little ease Where a man can afford to be ill And that extra bill won't bring him to his knees Now I'm so alone, I can't go home How could a family understand? That your love for them can do you in Make you a desperate man Though youth is gone still the heart draws you on To devise foolhardy plans You set aside your guilt for kingdoms built On shifting desert sands

A freeway runs right past my home It's the home where you left me to live alone And I admit I feel good knowin' you feel hurt Every time you pass by on your way to work Got a sign on my roof it's twenty feet high Read it and weep when you drive by A daily reminder that you broke our vow Reads: If You Loved Here, You'd Be Home By Now The fact that you're angry 'cause you're stuck in a jam Brings a little bit of comfort to this lonely man But what's better than this is the pain you must feel Every time you gotta drive your automobile It's standin' tall to remind you of all you're missin'... If you'd be home right now We'd be lovin' and huggin' and kissin' If you loved here... You thought you found a new love but it didn't come through Yeah, he's long gone now He's a cheater too And that long long drive it's two hours plus You've got a lot of time to think and it's gotta be rough When you see that sign that's twenty feet high You must read it and weep as you drive by This daily reminder that you broke our vow Reads: If You Loved Here, You'd Be Home By Now

Go ahead and do it Lord Change my Diamonds to Coal Go ahead and do it Lord Bring me lower than low You said a man might gain the world And lose his own soul So go ahead and do it Lord Change my Diamonds to Coal I was thinking I had everything Thinkin' I was mighty But lately I've been feelin' all the Ash and dust inside me And I can't ignore the Savior King I can't avoid the cross I'll need the help His spirit brings To count my gain as loss (so) Thought my money was my worth So my wealth was my devotion My love for treasures on this earth Is a chain that must be broken And I can't ignore the Savior King I can't just walk away I desire to be redeemed That's why I'm here to pray
5.
How often do we spot the angels? Or feel the unseen hand? Most times are tough, the going rough Like there never was a master plan Those steadfast doors won't open And you pray...but you don't understand Hold fast the hope that's in you Don't always trust your eyes Sometimes it takes a long time to see it as A Blessing in Disguise We live upon this dark surface And God, He moves upon the deep What is concealed will be revealed There is no promise He won't keep Still, we're confused by the shadows We're awake, but we're half asleep Sometimes the dark can move our hearts To long for the light of the Son And our ways don't become His ways Until we are undone And after you've been broken You may not realize That you are grace to the broken hearted And a blessing in... A blessing in... You are a Blessing in Disguise
6.
Go on and watch the horizon reeling in You're free now to open every forbidden door Or let a thunderstorm chase you all the way back east But don't ever think I won't love you anymore And I pray for lights at the ends of tunnels And I pray for rivers flowing in the desert Wherever life is leading, don't stop believing that You are loved...and forgiven (2x) Ancestors who fought to make it but never did Fathers, sons, old grudges rolling down the years Still, it's not in your nature to ever settle a score I'm guessin' it was just a good night for gettin' out of here Look for the broken cross In your shattered rearview mirror Is that the face you've lost getting nearer? becoming clearer? And I don't believe in cheap grace or easy streets This world needs to break our hearts and our innocence But maybe that hard rain will drive you all the way home Save you from drowning in your last defense Don't stop believing You are Loved and Forgiven
7.
Rebecca, Go Home Though you may be scared Just close your eyes and let go I'm not far behind you Soon I'll meet you where the river of life ever flows Yes, the Lord's been good to us But now you're lyin' here And I just found the right words Can you hear them through my tears? Rebecca, Go Home I know you're tired God knows I wish that you could stay You've fought the good fight You've been through the fire Let every sweet memory light your way Down to the little church Our son has gone to pray And now that we're alone sweetheart I feel that I can say... Rebecca, Go Home Oh, Rebecca, go home Like when you were a child Your daddy would call out your name And you'd run through the dark fields To the light of his smile My guess is that heaven is much the same So don't you worry, I'll be alright Sweet Rebecca my love Goodnight Rebecca Go Home Oh Rebecca, my love... Goodnight

A melancholy ghost moves Outside your window certain That brushing past your curtain And dancing through the leaves Will remind you of your first love Who held you warm and tender And gently asked you to surrender To the Honeysuckle Breeze Now do you see his face love In the shadows and the sunlight He held his tongue to still the dark night Now he's whisperin' through the trees To remind you of your first love And the days before your winter When you breathed the sweet sweet splendor Of the Honeysuckle Breeze Far away, far away you've wandered And soon forgot the one who loves you still In the ruins of the precious gifts you've squandered Rise again and breath again His will Come away, come away sweet darlin' While the scent of love's still drifting on the wind Your lover knows your hungry heart's still starving For the gentle one who bids you come to Him Oh, breath the sweet sweet splendor of the Honeysuckle Breeze yes...

You don't like my politics You're not impressed with my magic tricks You call "cruel" my rapier wit (and) think my poetry is drivel Well, I don't care for your style of clothes Your choice of food turns up my nose And when it comes to love and hate then I suppose We're both somewhere in the middle (but when you say) (CHORUS) "I want you", I say "Ditto" You say, "I need you", I say "Ditto" No I'm not kiddin' you kiddo Right here we got devotion Let me second your motion... "Ditto" You don't like my old pick-up truck Or the things I'll do to make a buck The fact I seem always down on my luck frightens you a little Well, I don't always get your attitude Your condescension can be flat and rude Where this is leading is like your mood, something like a riddle (when you say) We got in common that we don't have much in common Ah, but these distractions are just a fraction Of what you and me apparently been wantin' You always mock my guitar licks My metaphors, my puns and quips You don't dig my friends, you call them hicks It's your penchant to belittle You act like it's a favor when you hang around And you never show affection to my old hound You don't eat your hot cakes till they've cooled down I like 'em hot off the griddle (now you say)

I've been a drunkard most of my life My drinkin' killed my darlin' wife but not one night has she left me here alone Still it's not her ghost I dread when she stands next to my bed It's those words she speaks that chill me to the bone I have seen the wall of heaven And your name's not written there And each time you turn from Jesus It is more than I can bear For there awaits a robe of diamonds And a crown for you to wear But I've seen the wall of heaven And your name's not written there I know a man who is my shame Old Whisky is his name, and he mocks my wife each night when she appears And though she's fighting for my soul, Old Whisky won't let go Though she says these words through a ghostly veil of tears And every night it is the same All the guilt and all the shame And there's Old Whisky saying "Hey, I'm your truest friend" And though the ghost has gone away, she will haunt me through the day And when the night comes 'round, she'll remind me once again And though you've always been a sinner And you've reaped just what you've sown The angels are still willing To carve your name into that stone You've yet to give your heart to Jesus Trust His love and tender care For I've seen the Wall of Heaven And your name's not written there

Tempted and tried we're oft made to wonder Why it should be thus all the day long While there are others living about us Never molested though in the wrong When death has come and taken our loved ones Leaving our homes so lonely and drear Then do we wonder why others prosper Living so wicked year after year Farther along we'll know all about it Farther along we'll understand why Cheer up my brother, live in the sunshine We'll understand it all by and by Faithful till death said our loving Master A few more days to labor and wait Toils of the road will then seem as nothin' As we sweep through the beautiful gate When we see Jesus comin' in glory When He comes from His home in the sky Then we shall meet Him in that bright mansion And we'll understand it all by and by Farther along we'll know all about it Farther along we'll understand why Cheer up my brother, live in the sunshine We'll understand it all by and by
